Fishing licenses are required if you want to fish in Italy, especially in Venice and getting caught without one, could get you fined. The amateur fishing license for tourists staying in Venice costs €13. So, I went on an online venture to see if I could buy the license online. Between coping and pasting Italian into google translate and using my iPhone too, I finally figured out that you can buy your Italian fishing license online, although one website explained that you had to go to a special government department with a stamp from the Tobacco shop, proving that you paid the fee.

The first website that you need to go to is to get your Italian Tax Code (Codice Fiscale), yes... surprisingly enough, that was required, even as a foreigner to get the fishing license. It takes less than 30 seconds to your generate Italian Tax Code (Codice Fiscale) from the following website: https://www.paginebianche.it/codice-fiscale

Your code should look something like this: DBRRMN77H23Z116Z (16 alpha-num characters)

After having generated your Italian Tax Code (Codice Fiscale), you can now proceed to the Italian online fishing license website. I used the Google Translate app with camera to get through this website, but the information which was asked for, was very basic.

You will need a credit/debit card to pay for the license online with a 0.50c processing fee.

After some trial and error, the website to buy the permit does not allow linking to the site, so I have to spell this out to you. In Google, search for "Portale dei Pagamenti della Regione del Veneto", then click on the first find: "MyPay Regione Veneto", then select "Licenza pesca dilettantistico-sportiva per straniero (validità di tre mesi)" on the bottom right to get to the site without being blocked.

The first stage is putting in your details, then once you proceed, they will send you an email with a link to stage 2, this is where you put in your Name, Italian Tax Code etc. You then proceed to the payment section, select your payment method + processing fee selection. You then get an email after you have paid with a PDF of payment confirmation and info about what it is for: Licenza pesca dilettantistico. So, thats it... valid for 3 months. Tight lines...
